Hg field blanks

Trace Level Hg Field Blank (EPA Method 1631) 
A field blank is a sample of analyte­free water (in this case, Nanopure® Hg­free water 
prepared at the Central Laboratory and included in the Trace Level Hg Sampling Kits) 
transferred, at the sampling site, into an appropriate container for the purpose of 
distinguishing ambient contamination (attributed to sample collection and transport 
activities) from actual sample contribution. The field blank would then be submitted for 
analysis as any other sample (i.e., it must be included on a separate fieldsheet and on the 
chain­of­custody [COC] form when COC protocol is followed).
