Market St. Smithfield, North Carolina 27577 JCPU Project # 21-092-S October 2021 DESIGN NARRATIVE 1.0 PROJECT DESCRIPTION The Cleveland Apartments Gravity Sewer Extension project will install approximately 317 linear feet of 8-inch PVC sanitary sewer from an existing manhole to a cut -in proposed 4' manhole. The proposed 4' manhole will be cut into an existing 8-inch PVC gravity sewer line that runs parallel to Cleveland Road (SR 1010). The proposed gravity sewer line's purpose is to divert flow from the aging system at the rear of the property to the newer system at the roadway providing a more reliable sanitary sewer service to Cleveland School Apartments and surrounding facilities. The work will take place entirely on County -owned property. 2.0 EXISTING SYSTEM The existing collection system in this area is aging. It was originally built to serve the school but since that time several other facilities have been added and the school has been converted to private apartments. The system is failing and causing issues for all facilities tied to it. 3.0 PROPOSED ADDITIONS The proposed construction will add approximately 317 linear feet of 8-inch PVC sanitary sewer, 2 cleanouts, and a 4' manhole. The pipeline will be laid at a 1.05% grade. No new flow is expected. The downstream WWPS will remain the Josephine WWPS (WQ0028867). .S h USGS V.S.
