HomeMy WebLinkAboutWQCS00297_Annual Performance Report July 1999-July 2000_20000804r SEP 1' 2000 r5 Town of Lillington nnual Wastewater Collection System Report July 1999 to July 2000 ( + AUG 1 7 2000 General Information DENR - WATER QUALM! • POINT SOURCE BRANCH Facility Name: Lillington Wastewater Collection System Responsible Entity: Town of Lillington Interim Public Works Director: Jody Cline, Town of Lillington Operator in Responsible Charge: Charles McNeil Telephone: 910-893-3607 Description of Process The Town of Lillington Collection System has approximately 10 miles of gravity fed sewer line and 6 sewer lift stations. The lift stations are located at the lowest points of the, town to pump the gravity fed wastewater to the wastewater treatment facility. Four of the six lift stations pump directly to the Main lift station. The Prison and Main lift stations both pump directly to the headworks of the wastewater treatment facility. Updates, Currently, only two of the six lift stations have emergency backup power. They are, the Main lift station, located at the end of Edwards Drive, and This End Up lift station, located on Alexander Drive. Plans are being made to supply the other four stations with emergency backup power. Total refurbishment has been done to the Duncan Street and English Woods lift stations. New pumps, pump floats, and alarm systems have been installed. A water tap to This End up lift station was completed July 2000 to supply the station with a better means of being cleaned. This End Up lift station also had a visual alarm installed and junction box put in to prevent the hydrogen sulfide gases from eating away the electrical components. A survey was done to address the inflow and infiltration problem (I / I ). This is when rain/groundwater seeps into manholes and sewer lines dues to cracks/holes. Manhole rehabilitation will be underway in the near future. Reminder Grease is and has been an ongoing problem with the collection system. Grease hardens inside the lines, inside the lift station walls, and harms the pumps. Contrary to popular belief, pouring hot water or a type of detergent over the grease down the pipe DOES, NOT dilute it. The only way to prevent this from happening is to dispose of the grease properly. Any efforts you can make in doing this would greatly be appreciated. Please feel/free to contact the sewer department at 910-893-3607 if you have any questions. Performance Summary of system performance for the Fiscal Year 1999 to 2000.
