SEP - 3 2003 Annual Wastewater Collection System Report July 2002 to June 2003 General Information Facility Name: Lillington Wastewater Collection System Responsible Entity: Town of Lillington Permit Number: Public Works Director: Michael Tutt Operator in Responsible Charge: Timothy Smith Telephone: (910) 893-3607 Description of Process SEP 1 5 2003 /j The Town of Lillington Collection System consists of a combination of gravity lines and pump stations which carry the Town's wastewater directly to the Harnett County Regional Wastewater Treatment Facility. There, it undergoes extensive filtration, sedimentation, sludge removal, and disinfection before being discharged into the Cape Fear River. Our collection system is closely monitored and governed by the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Water Quality Division. Updates This fiscal year the Town purchased a lateral camera. This camera enables the collection system department to look into 4" sewer lines (the standard size of most residential lines). This will be extremely beneficial to us for the fact that it will save time and money by identifying what exactly the problem is. This fiscal year also the Town has cleaned 13,759 feet (2.6 miles) of sewer lines. Reminder Grease is an ongoing problem in the collection system. The Town of Lillington currently spends more than $4000.00 per year to reduce the amount of grease in the system. After grease has been introduced to the system, it hardens inside pipes and causes blockages. Contrary to popular belief, letting hot water run after disposing of grease down a drain or using detergent with it Does Not dilute it. The only way to prevent this from happening is to dispose of it in a trash can. Another way can be mixing liquid vegetable fats with an absorbent such as kitty litter or coffee grounds and place them in a lidded container before disposal. Any efforts you can make in doing this would greatly help the collection system and reduce blockages to our customers. Please feel free to contact the wastewater collection department at (910) 893-3607 if you have any questions. Performance Summary of system performance for the Fiscal Year 2002 to 2003.
