Reminder
GREASE is an ongoing problem in the collection system. The Town ofLillington currently
spends more than $4000.00 a year to: reduce the amount of grease in the collection system.
Grease hardens inside the wastewater pipesreducing the amount of space inside the line, which
lead's to blockages. It also causes pump station malfunctions, which could spill over into local
water sources. Contrary to popular belief, running hot water or a type of detergent down the
drain does not lessen the effect grease has when it hardens to the walls of the pipe. The only way
to prevent this from happening is to dispose of the greaseiproper-ly. This -can be accomplished by
freezing animal fat in a can and disposingof it in a trashcan:: Another way can be by mixing
liquid vegetable fats with an absorbent such as cat litter or coffee grounds and place in a lidded
container before disposal. Any efforts you can make in doing this would greatly help the . .
collection system and reduce the amount of blockages to our customers. Please feel free to
contact -the wastewater collection department at-(91-0) 893-3607 if -you have any questions.
