DESCRIPTION OF TREATMENT PROCESS:
The City of Dunn Black River Wastewater Treatment Facility uses mechanical pretreatment
processes to remove inorganic materials such as rags and sand. An extended aeration biological
process is utilized for secondary treatment. This is followed by clarification, disinfection, and de -
chlorination before the treated water is discharged into the Cape Fear River. Excess sludge is
thickened and stabilized before land application as biosolids to permitted farm sites.
H. PERFORMANCE:
The City of Dunn Black River Wastewater Treatment Facility had one reportable violation in
2008: On November 15, 2008, the effluent pumping station was knocked out of service during a
severe thunderstorm which caused an equipment failure. This resulted in a bypass of the effluent
pumping station . and an overflow of completely treated effluent from the chlorine contact
chamber.
M. NOTIFICATION:
This report is a matter of public record and will be filed in the City of Dunn — North Carolina
Administrative Office and made available to users or customers of the system. Additionally, this
report will be published in The Daily Record (local newspaper) and run on the City's local
government cable channel.
