GENERAL NOTES
1. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL HAVE A COMPLETE SET OF CONTRACT DOCUMENTS AS
WELL AS ALL APPROVALS AND PERMITS ON THE JOB SITE AT ALL TIMES.
2. THE CONTRACTOR IS RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL LAYOUT WORK REQUIRED TO
PROPERLY CONSTRUCT THE WORK. ALL UTILITIES SHALL REMAIN ACTIVE DURING
CONSTRUCTION UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED. CONTRACTOR SHALL ENSURE THAT
ANY LINES FEEDING OTHER BUILDINGS REMAIN INTACT AND ARE CAPABLE OF
BEING MAINTAINED.
3. CONTRACTOR SHALL MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO SAVE PROPERTY IRONS,
MONUMENTS, OTHER PERMANENT POINTS AND LINES OF REFERENCE AND
CONSTRUCTION STAKES. PROPERTY IRONS, MONUMENTS, AND OTHER
PERMANENT POINTS OF REFERENCE DESTROYED BY THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE
REPLACED BY A NORTH CAROLINA LICENSED LAND SURVEYOR AT THE
CONTRACTOR'S EXPENSE.
4. 36" MINIMUM COVER SHALL BE PROVIDED OVER ALL WATER LINES AND SEWER
LINES UNLESS SHOWN OTHERWISE.
5. CONTRACTOR SHALL INSTALL MEASURES AS NECESSARY DURING CONSTRUCTION
FOR SEDIMENTATION AND EROSION CONTROL.
6. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL RESTORE THE DISTURBED AREA TO EXISTING OR
FINISHED GRADE UNLESS SHOWN OTHERWISE ON THE DRAWINGS.
7. CONTRACTOR SHALL SALVAGE ALL SIGNS WITHIN CONSTRUCTION LIMITS AND
REINSTALL AS DIRECTED BY OWNER.
8. ALL FITTINGS ARE NOT SHOWN ON THE DRAWINGS, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE
RESPONSIBLE FOR PROVIDING AND INSTALLING ALL FITTINGS NECESSARY TO
COMPLETE THE WORK.
9. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL MAINTAIN SEPARATION BETWEEN SEWERS AND WATER
MAINS AS FOLLOWS:
(A) LATERAL SEPARATION OF SEWERS AND WATER MAINS.
WATER MAINS SHALL BE LAID AT LEAST 10' LATERALLY FROM EXISTING OR
PROPOSED SEWERS, UNLESS LOCAL CONDITIONS OR BARRIERS
PREVENT A 10' LATERAL SEPARATION -IN WHICH CASE:
(1) THE WATER MAIN IS LAID IN A SEPARATE TRENCH, WITH THE
ELEVATION OF THE BOTTOM OF THE WATER MAIN AT LEAST 18" ABOVE
THE TOP OF THE SEWER, OR
(2) THE WATER MAIN IS LAID IN THE SAME TRENCH AS THE SEWER WITH
THE WATER MAIN LOCATED AT ONE SIDE ON A BENCH OF UNDISTURBED
EARTH, AND WITH THE ELEVATION OF THE BOTTOM OF THE WATER MAIN
AT LEAST 18" ABOVE THE TOP OF THE SEWER.
(B) CROSSING A WATER MAIN OVER A SEWER
WHENEVER IT IS NECESSARY FOR A WATER MAIN TO CROSS OVER A
SEWER, THE WATER MAIN SHALL BE LAID AT SUCH AN ELEVATION THAT
THE BOTTOM OF THE WATER MAIN IS 18" ABOVE THE TOP OF THE
SEWER, UNLESS LOCAL CONDITIONS OR BARRIERS PREVENT AN 18"
VERTICAL SEPARATION - IN WHICH CASE BOTH THE WATER MAIN AND
SEWER SHALL BE CONSTRUCTED OF FERROUS MATERIALS AND WITH
JOINTS THAT ARE EQUIVALENT TO WATER MAIN STANDARDS
FOR A DISTANCE OF 10' ON EACH SIDE OF THE POINT OF CROSSING.
(C) CROSSING A WATER MAIN UNDER A SEWER
WHENEVER IT IS NECESSARY FOR A WATER MAIN TO BE CROSSED UNDER
A SEWER, BOTH THE WATER MAIN AND THE SEWER SHALL BE
CONSTRUCTED OF FERROUS MATERIALS AND WITH JOINTS EQUIVALENT TO
WATER MAIN STANDARDS FOR A DISTANCE OF 10' ON EACH SIDE OF THE
POINT OF CROSSING. A SECTION OF WATER MAIN PIPE SHALL BE
CENTERED AT THE POINT OF CROSSING.
10. ALL CONCRETE SHALL BE 3,000 PSI STRENGTH (28 DAY), UNLESS OTHERWISE
NOTED.
11. CONTRACTOR SHALL INSTALL APPROVED WARNING TAPE OVER PIPE CENTERS AT
A DEPTH OF 1 J" TO 2".
12. CONTRACTOR SHALL MAINTAIN TEMPORARY POWER TO ALL EXISTING BUILDINGS AS
REQUIRED DURING CONSTRUCTION.
13. CONTRACTOR SHALL CONTACT HYDE COUNTY WATER DEPARTMENT AT
252-926-4196 TO COORDINATE NEW WATER SERVICE.
