3. CONSTRUCT THE FILTER FABRIC FROM A CONTINUOUS ROLL CUT TO THE LENGTH
OF THE BARRIER TO AVOID JOINTS. WHEN THE JOINTS ARE NECESSARY, SECURELY
FASTEN THE FILTER CLOTH ONLY AT A SUPPORT POST WITH 4 FEET MINIMUM

BASINS. THE HYDROLOGIC ZONES OF
IMPORTANCE FOR A WET BASIN CONSIST OF
THE UPLAND AND THE TEN FOOT WADE
VEGETATED SHELF THAT IS CENTERED ON THE
PERMANENT POOL ELEVATION. THE UPLAND
IS THE AREA ABOVE THE VEGETATED SHELF
THAT IS INTENDED TO RECEIVE LITTLE OR NO
INUNDATION. THE VEGETATED SHELF IS
BROKEN INTO TWO DISTINCT REGIONS: 1)
THE CONSTANTLY INUNDATED SHALLOW WATER
ZONE (0- TO 6" BELOW NORMAL POOL), AND
2) THE SHALLOW LAND OR TEMPORARILY
INUNDATED ZONE (0' TO 6' ABOVE NORMAL
POOL).
SOIL PREPARATION
1.THE CONTRACTOR SHALL OVER -EXCAVATE
THE UPLAND AREA BY 6' AND THE
VEGETATED SHELF AREA BY 12°.
2.THE UPLAND AREA SHALL BE BROUGHT TO
GRADE BY PLACEMENT OF 6' TOPSOIL
AMENDED PER THE SEEDING AND MULCHING
SPECIFICATIONS PROVIDED. WHEN PLACING
FERTILIZER, CARE SHALL BE USED TO LIMIT
PLACEMENT TO THE UPLAND AREA. SOD
SHALL BE INSTALLED ON THE UPLAND
SLOPE.
3, THE VEGETATED SHELF SHALL BE
BROUGHT TO GRADE BY PLACEMENT OF 12'
AMENDED SOIL. SOIL SHALL BE AMENDED
AND TESTED TO VERIFY THAT SOIL PH IS
BETWEEN 5.5 AND 6.5 WITH A MINIMUM OF
5-10% ORGANIC MATTER. SOIL PH CAN BE
INCREASED BY ADDING LIME OR DECREASED
BY ADDING IRON SULFITE. COMPOST CAN
BE ADDED TO INCREASE ORGANIC MATTER.
USE OF PEAT MOSS IS NOT RECOMMENDED.
TESTING CAN USUALLY BE PERFORMED
THROUGH THE LOCAL COOPERATIVE
EXTENSION OFFICE.
4.IMMEDIATELY UPON COMPLETION OF
GRADING ACTIVITIES, INSTALL EXCELSIOR
EROSION CONTROL MATTING AND
PLANTINGS. IF SITE IS NOT COMPLETELY
STABILIZED, INSTALL SILT FENCE AROUND
UPLAND PERIMETER AS NECESSARY TO
PROTECT THE POND FROM RUNOFF FROM
UNSTABILIZED AREAS.
PLANT INSTALLATION
1.PLANTS SHALL BE INSTALLED WITHIN 14
DAYS OF COMPLETION OF GRADING
ACTIVITIES MEN PLANTING DATES
CORRESPOND. FOR BEST RESULTS,
SHALLOW WATER PLANTINGS SHOULD BE
INSTALLED BETWEEN APRIL 1ST AND JULY
15TH. AT NO TIME SHOULD SHALLOW
WATER PLANTS BE INSTALLED BETWEEN
OCTOBER 1ST AND MARCH 1ST. A PARTIAL
CERTIFICATION CAN BE FILED WITH NCDENR
WITHOUT INSTALLATION OF THE SHALLOW
WATER PLANTS TO INSURE THAT THEY ARE
PLANTED AT THE PROPER TIMES. SEE
ACCEPTABLE RECOMMENDED SPECIES LIST
BELOW. THE OPTIMAL DATES FOR
INSTALLATION OF SHALLOW LAND
PLANTINGS IS BETWEEN APRIL 1ST AND
AUGUST 31ST ; HOWEVER, SHALLOW LAND
PLANTINGS CAN BE INSTALLED THROUGHOUT
THE YEAR. SEE ACCEPTABLE

ORIFICE. CLOGGING OF THESE DEVICES WILL
CAUSE WATER SURFACE ELEVATIONS TO BE
ELEVATED FOR EXTENDED PERIODS OF TIME
CAUSING INUNDATION LEVELS THAT ARE
