SANITARY SEWAGE DUPLEX GRINDER STATION AND FORCE MAIN GENERAL: Watson Rentals LLC. has formally requested sanitary sewer service from the Tuckaseigee Water & Sewer Authority (TWSA). TWSA will allow this connection based on required permitting from NCDEQ- Water Resources. This project includes a new duplex grinder pump station, new 2-inch low-pressure forcemain, private 6-inch gravity sewer service, abandonment of two septic tanks, and connection to an existing 6-inch PVC TWSA forcemain. Vaughn and Melton (V&M) was hired to provide the design of the sewer improvements. The proposed plan calls for installing one 3.5 foot diameter x 8-feet deep duplex fiberglass grinder pump basin, approximately 225 linear feet of new 6" gravity line, approximately 300 linear feet of new 2-inch low-pressure forcemain, a pump control panel w/ portable generator hook-up, along with erosion and sediment control. The proposed project will initially serve 11- apartment units with an estimated flow of 240 gpd per apartment for a total of 2,640 gallons per day. The design also includes future development plans for up to an additional 20- units or additional 4,800 gpd contribution. A new 6-inch gravity line will be installed to serve the 31 apartments. The gravity line will tie to the duplex grinder pump station as shown on the plans. The new 2" force main will discharge into an existing 6-inch forcemain located on Hamsfeld Hall Road that serves LS #6 on Savannah Creek. The approximate length of 6" to be utilized by the new pumps is 1700 LF. The existing 6" force sewer line conveys wastewater to TWSA Plant No. 1. LS NO. 6 is a duplex pump station with pumps rated at approximately 290 gpm at 70 TDH, 20 HP, each. Refer to Table 1 in Appendix A for the existing lift station hydraulics. All work will be completed per the requirements of NCDEQ and the Tuckaseigee Water & Sewer Authority. Per the findings of this report, the existing force main and WWTP has enough reserve capacity to accept the new flow from the new duplex grinder pump station. Flow Contribution: Historical water usage for the property with the rentals is approximately 7,000 gallons per month. The projected instantaneous flow was calculated based on design criteria from 15A NCAC 02T.0114 Wastewater Design Flow Rates and based on projected number of dwelling units & bedrooms per Table 1 in Appendix A. Existing & future flow is estimated = 31 units x 240 gpd/unit = 7,440 GPD. The average instantaneous flow based on a 16hr-Q was calculated to be = 7.8 GPM. Refer to Table 2 in Appendix A. A peak flow factor of 3.5 will be used to size the new pumps. Thus, the peak flow projected will be: 3.5 x 7.8 GPM = 27.13 GPM Therefore, use: Design Instantaneous Influent Flow = 7.8 GPM Pump Design Flow = 27.13 GPM B. Wet -Well Design: New duplex submersible type grinder pumps will be utilized. New wet -well dimensions = 3.5' inside diameter Invert of incoming sewer line = 2023.8' Finished grade elevation = 2026.3' Top of wet -well elevation = 2026.8' Wet -well Invert elevation = 2018.8' 100-year base flood elevation = 2021.1 established (refer to Firm Map attached in the Appendix E). Assume 2.0' of water submergence for cooling is required by the grinder pump manufacturer (otherwise a water-cooling jacket will be utilized on each pump). Calculations to determine the wet -well volume are as follows: Useable Sump Volume = 15 x Q eq. 19.2, Reference 1 Chr DESIGN CALCULATIONS V&M Project No. 032150-15 11/21 Page 2 DocuSign Envelope ID: 2C88A0BC-A3B6-4B5F-A8D5-1273034EBD75 Where Q = Qdesign = 27.13 GPM Chr= Pump cycles per hour, assume 6 Sump volume = 15 x 27.13 GPM = 70 Gallons 6 Cycles Since the pump station's wet -well diameter will be 3.5 feet, the storage per foot is as follows: Storage Volume = Volume of Pump Station = 3.14/4 x 3.5' x 3.5' x 1 Ft depth = 9.61 Ft3 = 9.61 Ft3 x 7.48 gal/Ft3 = 72 gallons / foot depth Therefore, sump depth required = useable sump volume = 70 gallons = 1 ft. storage volume 72 gallons/ft. Use 1 ft pump down will be utilized. Refer to Figure 1 and the pump cycle calculations Table No.3, attached in Appendix C. C. Emergency Operation: A portable generator set and a manual transfer switch will be provided to support the needs of the pump station in case of a power outage. The portable generator will include a fuel storage tank with a fuel capacity capable of operating the station for 6 hrs at full load. D. Force Main Size Selection: Select pipe diameter to provide a force main scouring velocity of at least 2.0 ft/sec., at minimum flow: V = Q where Q = minimum flow, A = area of pipe A Assume minimum pump flow will be pre-set at 27.13 GPM. A = Q = 27.13 GPM x 1 Ft3/sec/449 = 0.031 Ft2 V 2.0 Ft/sec. Pump Selection: Two (2) new submersible grinder pumps of equal capacity will be utilized. Automatic alternation will be provided. One pump will serve as standby. The pump specified will be a 2 HP explosion proof submersible grinder pump, 230- volt, 3450 rpm, single-phase, Hydromatic HPGX200, with 4.25" diameter impeller, or equal. Refer to the pump curve and other information attached in Appendix D. E. System Operation: The duplex grinder pump station will receive sanitary sewage from the single family apartments as noted previously. Flow will be collected in the wet -well station before it gets pumped into the collection system via the new 2" force main. The operating pump flow will range between 32 GPM (one pump running) to approximately 44 GPM (when two pumps are operating). When LS NO. 6 is ON at the same time, the projected flow from this station will be approximately 27 gpm due to the additional headloss in the 6" force main. F. Odor Control Calculations: Odor control is recommended if detention in wet -well or force main exceeds 30 minutes. 1) Check wet -well detention time based on average incoming flow (7.8 GPM) = 72 gal/Ft x 1' = 10 minutes < 30 minutes, therefore Okay. 7.8 GPM 2) Check force main detention time based on minimum pump flow: = 299' x II (2/12)2/4 x 7.48 = 1.80 minutes <_ 30 minutes 27.13 GPM Therefore, odor control is not required. Buoyancy Calculations: Design Note: Mechanical equipment, water weight, and other temporary loads inside the wet -well shall not be included in the calculations.
