Dear. Mr. Turner:
The Division of Water Quality (DWQ) has reviewed the above-referenced restoration plan. the plan in
general appears to be well-designed, and the site appears to be a good candidate for restoration.
Our review has resulted in questions regarding the Morphological Characteristics tables included within
the plan. In the table for the Northern UT, the existing valley slope is reported as 0.0010 ft/ft, while the
design valley slope is shown as 0.0018 ft/ft. Similarly, the existing valley slope for the Southern UT is
reported as 0.0003 ft/ft, while the design valley slope is shown as 0.0071 ft/ft, an order of magnitude
difference. In addition, the bankfull discharge for the existing Southern UT is listed as 4.9 cfs, while the
design bankfull discharge is 4.8 cfs.
The bankfull discharge is a constant value based on watershed characteristics, and should not change as
a result of the restoration design. Similarly, there should be no change in the valley slope between the
existing and proposed conditions, particularly an order of magnitude change.
Please provide revised Morphological Characteristics tables correcting these irregularities.
