During a rain event, stormwater creates fast moving short-lived waterways on the street where you live, • Mayor & Board of Aldermen in your yard and down your driveway. It flows over sidewalks, streets, lawns, fields and parking lots and directly into our streams, lakes and rivers. The most dramatic consequence of stormwater runoff is • Boards & Commissions flashflooding and the damage it brings. As land is built up and developed, increasing amounts of • Town Departments stormwater runs off directly to streams or rivers - much more than streams and rivers can hold. The additional water overflows and floods streets, businesses, and homes. Stormwater runoff also carries o Administration dirt, grime, fertilizers, oil, gas and everything else we leave on the ground, directly to our water bodies. o Planning Stormwater runoff results in: o Police o Fire • Rivers, lakes and streams that may be too dirty to fish in, swim in, or water too dirty to drink o Parks & Recreation • Fecal bacteria in the water o Public Works • Excess nutrients in the water causing algae blooms, fish kills, and increased costs for water treatment. ■ Water & Sewer Services Why do I have to pay for it? ■ Street Maintenance ■ Curbside Household Everyone contributes to stormwater pollution problems - everyone must be part of the solution. The Gibsonville Board of Aldermen ■ Stormwater approved the implementation of a stormwater fee of 75 cents per month on June 16, 2008 to fund the stormwater managment program to be compliant with federal and state regulations, safeguard your ■ Hot Topics community through improving drainage systems, and improve local water quality. o Library Stormwater and Storm Drainage Project and Maintenance Policy • Downtown Program • Empoyee Portal The Town has been asked on occasion to participate in stormwater projects on private property and the Stormwater and Storm Drainage Project and Maintenance Policy provides the framework to respond to these requests. In addition, the Town has current maintenance practices which are reiterated in this policy. On June 7, 2021, the Town of Gibsonville Board of Aldermen approved an increase of 75 cents to fund eligible stormwater projects submitted by property owners who wish to participate in the Town's Stormwater and Storm DrainageProject and Maintenance Policy. The increase which goes into effect on July 1, 2021 will increase the monthly fee from 75 cents to $1.50 and will provide approximately $33,000 in additional revenue for residents who wish to submit stormwater projects.
