LABORATORY NAME: Progress Energy - Weatherspoon Steam Electric Plant
ADDRESS: 491 Power Plant Road
Lumberton, NC 28358
CERTIFICATE NO: 5057
DATE OF INSPECTION: 02/24/2005
TYPE OF INSPECTION: Maintenance
EVALUATOR: Norman L. Good
LOCAL PERSON(S) CONTACTED: Steve Davis, Rodney Lemonds
I. INTRODUCTION:
This laboratory was inspected to verify its compliance with the requirements of 15A NCAC 2H .0800
for the analysis of environmental samples.
II. GENERAL COMMENTS:
The laboratory is spacious and well equipped. All facilities and equipment are well maintained.
Records are well kept and data looked good. The facility carries residual chlorine as a provisional
parameter on its discharge permit. In the event that the plant uses chlorine, then routine
monitoring and reporting shall resume. The laboratory maintains readiness through the analysis of
performance evaluation samples and annual five point calibration checks.
Current laboratory practice is to replace the thermometer in use after the NIST calibration check
has expired. The company which performs the annual certification charges more than the
replacement cost of the device tocalibrate to NIST. If the lab wishes to change to an NIST
traceable thermometer, annual recalibrations are not required.
Carolina Power and Light has been replaced in the facility name with Progress Energy.
III. DEFICIENCIES, REQUIREMENTS, COMMENTS AND RECOMMENDATIONS:
No deficiencies detected during this inspection
IV. PAPER TRAIL INVESTIGATION:
Paper trail investigation consists of comparison of laboratory bench sheet and chain of custody
documentation to final reports. No errors in transcription or inconsistencies in these documents were
observed.
V. CONCLUSIONS:
No deficiencies were foundduring the inspection. No response .is required.
