RE: NOV 2021-LV-0797, Permit No. WQ0039488
Dear : Mr. Tankard;
The Camden County Courthouse Area WWTP has made several changes to the system to improve the Total
Nitrogen reduction at the facility. These include:
Changing the point at which the carbon supplement is fed and having the flexibility to change it’s
as needed.
Changed the rate that is fed. It is now fed at different rates based on flows. Adjustments to this
rate are still being made
One treatment train was found to be clogged and the train was not operating. This caused the other
train to be overloaded, dimensioning treatment ability.
Increasing sludge hauling. The sludge blanket has been found to be higher than anticipated. After
consulting with other operators of this type of facility, we have made changes to the amount of
sludge kept in the anoxic tanks. This has necessitated increased sludge pumping.
More frequent process control samples are being analyzed to better anticipate problems and correct
them before they occur.
We are also investigating the feasibility of changing some of the process flow (i.e. increased recirculation) to try to
improve Total Nitrogen reduction.
The Camden County wastewater treatment staff remain committed to providing reliable and compliant treatment
for the citizens of the county and will take every step necessary to do so. If you have any questions, please do not
hesitate to contact me. I remain;
Sincerely,
Charles Jones
Public Works Manager
