In regard to NOV-2021-TX-0058 for Midge View Community(permit#NC0060283)we
offer the following explanation:
We have not had a Toxicity problem since 2013.The Community is 100%domestic
wastewater. We are working closely with ETS Inc lab to identify all possible toxins. Jim
Sumner at ETS has been instrumental in helping us with this problem. Stream testing
revealed no toxins. Inorganic and organics were taken from the Community We are
testing further to isolate these compounds and their strengths. They are 1,4
dichlorobenzene, chloroform,methylene chloride,P-isopropyltoluene,and toluene. We
are dependent on Jim at ETS to tell us which parameters are toxic in his Chronic Toxicity
test. We are still having inconsistent problems with our chlorine DPD results. I think may
be chloroform reacting to sunlight at effluent and out of the refrigerator at the lab.
We are conducting ongoing THE analysis to determine our toxicity problem as soon as
possible. I will be meeting with as many tenants as I can on Thursday 11/18/21 to
interview possible sources of the above. I have contacted the manufacturer of our
chlorine and dechlor products as well as Hach(DPD)for technical help with the oxidizer
identification.
Jim Sumner at ETS has ample sample volume to continue his TRE.
The Community Owner has made this a top priority to eliminate the toxin to protect the
environment.A headwall has been installed at the stream to try and eliminate inflow that
could wash out chlorine and dechlor from our system..
Please allow us time and resources to remedy this problem in lieu of a possible fine. Your
