HomeMy WebLinkAbout20211572 Ver 1_SF-430005_Permit_Drawings_20211105_20211115(Version 3.00; Released August 2021)DF17614.2044138TIP/Proj No:430005County(ies):Haywood Page 1 of 2TIP Number:Date:Phone:Phone:Email:Email:County(ies):CAMA County?NoDesign/Future: Year:2021Existing: Year:Project involves the replacement of Bridge #430005 over Pisgah Creek on SR 1888 (Pisgah Creek Rd) in Haywood County, NC northeast of Cruso. The pre-existing bridge at this location was washed out during a flooding event in August 2021 (Tropical Storm Fred). During this storm event, the southern streambank washed out and material was deposited in the pre-flood streambed which raised the streambed about 3 feet at the bridge. A 70’ long by 30’ wide (24” Cored Slab Unit) single-span bridge with vertical abutments is proposed to replace a pre-existing 46’ long by 16’ wide (Timber deck on I-beams) single-span bridge. Proposing to restore a stable channel in the vicinity of the bridge with similar dimensions to that of the pre-failure channel. The proposed bridge completely spans the pre-existing channel. Excavation of approximately 3’ under the bridge will be required to restore pre-failure streambed elevation. This excavation will taper out to tie to existing up and downstream of the bridge. Temporary impacts are shown on UT to Pisgah Creek in order for equipment to cross and access proposed upstream work. Runoff from the pre-existing bridge discharged directly into the river; however, the proposed bridge will have no direct discharge into the river. Stormwater runoff from the proposed bridge is to flow to traffic bearing grated inlets on the east and west sides of the roadway at the north approach of the bridge where it will be diffused with a riprap pad at the proposed pipe outlets. All proposed stormwater runoff is discharged as far away from the stream and at the lowest velocities as practicable. Following the failure, 3@72” CSP temporary pipes were installed to reopen road to traffic and emergency vehicles. These pipes are proposed to be extended temporarily to allow sufficient clearance for bridge construction. Due to the required temporary detour alignment and clearance constraints, a temporary detour (2@48” CSP) is also required just downstream of the existing bridge on Chinquapin Creek.
