Noble Date: 1 /19/2012 Re: Red Springs WWTP status Update Monthly Progress Report 1/19/2012 Change order 3 has been signed by the contractor agreeing with the contract amount but disagreeing with the time. Change order 3 proposes the following: Sealing cracks and resurfacing at the oxidation ditch #2, installation of a new valve at the existing digester, installation of new grit mixer motor and scraper blades, removal of the catwalks around new digester from 'the contract, rehab of existing catwalks at the oxidation ditches. Contractor accounts for delays on the project to the increased amount of bypass pumping, inoperable gates and blockages encountered that were unforeseen when bidding on the project. Engineer has not received any written justification for additional time extensions from the contractor, however the contractor intends to request additional time. The current status of the project is being broken down by items as follows: General • Contractor projects February 2aas fain incompletion. Substantial date is unknown but pending putting both ditches and clarifiers in operation. Aeration Basin • Diffusing system needs an endcap to complete. • Blowers are ready for the startup. Existing Sludge Tanks • Contractor has placed the new pumps in place and is working on the piping and braces. Piping appears to be complete. • Plans to core the wall as indicated in Change Order 1 have changed. The leak originally thought to be coming from around the pipe was really coming from a loose connection. • Valve has been installed to prevent sludge from backing up into the new digestor. Asphalt has been repaired. 1 Chlorine Contact Chamber • The gate valve .has been replaced. Shaft appears bent but contractor indicated it will be straightened and still has to replace the seal on the bottom of the valve. • Working on a plug valve. Contractor is fabricating it to bolt down to the floor with four bolts. Grit Pump Rehab • Grit chamber is in operation with the gearbox in place. This has allowed the grit separator to operate more efficiently. • Installed grit panel and mixer with: o bearing cage and gear box o grease extensions o decking secured with four bolts • The chainlink connection will need to be greased bi-annually according to the contractor. Step Bar Screen (No update) • This item has been installed and currently in operation. This has helped remove a great deal of materials and solids from entering the plant. • Change order 2 - proposed driveway has been installed. Sludge Pumps (No update) • The VFD's have been installed. Scum Pumps (No update) • Scum pumps have been installed. Oxidations Ditch • Ditch #2 has resurfaced with shotcrete and the cracks have been repaired. • Rotors have been installed on Ditch#2 with the gearboxes. Bearings have been preloaded. • . Hinged Weirs have been replaced. • Ditch #2 ready to be tested once the basin is full. Ditch 2 Rotor • The rotor has been removed. The gear box is making a grinding noise. The contractor suggests replacing the gear box. The town decided to order a new gearbox. • Page 2 Influent (No Update) • The gate valves to the splitter box have been installed at the head of the plant. Clarifier • Contractor has had the startup on the clarifier. Supplier's representative has a punch list to complete prior to placing in operation. • Contractor plans to change over to Clarifier #1 once Ditch #2 is put into operation. • RES pumps have been wired. RES pump #1 is operational. • Plan to use the existing light pole between clarifiers. A new dual Tight head has been installed. EQ Basin (Needs to be addressed) • Basin has been cleaned out. • It has been brought to our attention that the valve that controls flow into the EQ basin is broken. The town has indicated they will pursue having the item fixed. (No Change). Generator (No Update) • Generator has been relocated and installation has been complete. Generator is in operation. Drying Bed (No Update) • Contractor has removed sludge from drying beds and replaced filter media as needed. • Page 3 Koonce, Noble & Associates, Inc. The current status of the project is being broken down by items as follows: Aeration Basin • Aeration Basin is complete. • .Blower piping needs bracing at the bottom. Contractor is to provide a proposal. • Blowers are operational but enclosures need to be completed. Existing Sludge Tanks • Item is complete and turned over to the town. Chlorine Contact Chamber • The gate valve has been replaced. Shaft appears bent but contractor indicated it will be straightened and still has to replace the seal on the bottom of the valve. Grit Pump Rehab • Item complete and turned over to the town. 1 _ Step Bar Screen • Item is complete and turned over to the town. Sludge Pumps • Three out of four of the pumps are complete and turned over to the town. Scum Pumps • Scum pumps have been installed and turned over to the town. Oxidations Ditch • Ditch #2 is complete and has been turned over to the town. • Ditch #1 has been tested for mercury. First 7 feet can be re -circulated into the system. Remaining liquid can be pumped to EQ basin or hauled off. Influent The gate valves to the splitter box have been installed at the head of the plant. Gate needs to be inspected for proper seal. Clarifier • Clarifier #1 is complete and turned over to the town. • Clarifier #2 is projected to be complete by 3/16/2012. EQ Basin • Basin has remained empty since contractor has cleaned it out. • Town has reported the valve has been repaired allowing for it to be utilized if needed. Generator • Item is complete and turned over to the town. Drying Bed (No Update) • Contractor has removed sludge from drying beds and replaced filter media as needed. • Page 2
