It is not valid for Historic Architecture and Landscapes. You must consult separately with the Historic Architecture and Landscapes Group. PROJECT INFORMATION Project No: County: Rockingham WBS No: 17BP.7.R.141 Document: State Minimum Criteria Checklist Federal Aid No: Funding: State Federal Federal Permit Required? Yes No Permit Type: TBD Project Description: Replace Bridge 280 on SR 2670 (South Scales St.) over Little Troublesome Creek in Rockingham County. Area of Potential Effects (A.P.E.) is approximately 183 meters (600 ft.) long and 60 meters (200 ft.) wide. The project is State-funded. The Federal permit requirements are unknown (this review assumes that a Federal permit will be required). No easements will be required. SUMMARY OF CULTURAL RESOURCES REVIEW Brief description of review activities, results of review, and conclusions: The review included an examination of a topographic map, an aerial photograph, and listings of previously recorded sites, previous archaeological surveys, and previous environmental reviews at the Office of State Archaeology (O.S.A.). The bridge is oriented approximately north-south. The topographic map (Reidsville) shows the A.P.E. is located in a wide creek valley. The landform in all four quadrants appears to be level floodplain. Several large buildings are shown in the northeast and southeast quadrants. There are no structures in the southwest quadrant, and two structures are shown along the west edge of the northwest quadrant. The northwest and southwest quadrants are depicted as cleared, suggesting that the floodplain may be well-drained. The aerial photograph shows the northeast quadrant is a parking lot and road. the southeast quadrant is occupied by an apartment complex. The southwest quadrant is cleared, and may be a residential yard for a house at the south end. The northwest quadrant is occupied by a parking lot. There are no previously recorded archaeological sites within or adjacent to the A.P.E. for this project. A project along Industrial Drive has been reviewed by the State Historic Preservation Office (HPO). We could not identify the Environmental Review (ER) of the project. The A.P.E. is not within any areas that have been surveyed for archaeological sites. Brief Explanation of why the available information provides a reliable basis for reasonably predicting that there are no unidentified historic properties in the APE: The A.P.E. is developed in all four quadrants.
