Main Street Sparta, NC 28675 NORTH CAROLINA Environmental Quality October 29, 2021 SUBJECT: Compliance Evaluation Inspection Town of Sparta WWTP NPDES Permit No. NC0026913 Alleghany County Dear Mr. Wilmoth, On October 19, 2021, Gary Hudson of this office met with Bobby Shaw and Wesley Weaver to perform a Compliance Evaluation Inspection at the above referenced wastewater treatment plant. This type of inspection consists of two basic parts: an in - office file review and an on -site inspection of the treatment facility. The attached EPA inspection form details the areas that were evaluated during this inspection. The inspection of the facility was satisfactory. A permit renewal application has been submitted on October 8, 2020. *The WWTP appeared to be well operated and maintained. No discrepancies were noted during the inspection. *Mr. Shaw and Mr. Weaver do a very good job with regards to keeping records. *The aeration basin appeared to be operating properly. *The secondary clarifier appeared to be working properly. The effluent leaving the clarifier was very clear on the day of the inspection. However, there was an oily sheen in a few places on the clarifier surface from a leaking drive unit. *The effluent leaving the WWTP was very clear on the day of the inspection.
