Subject: [Non-DoD Source] Candy Creek DMS Site Visit
TKC,
The site visit for Candy Creek went well. I'm ok with the proposed credit release. Let me know if you
have any questions.
Field Notes:
• Looked at the three mowing encroachment areas proposed for replanting this fall
• CC Reach 1— no concerns (other than encroachment)
• CC Reach 2 — previous meander scour repair looked stable, good live stake cover
• CC Reach 3 — 20ft meander scour proposed for brush toe repair this fall; a previous scour
bend "healed" itself
• UT1D — series of structure failures - 5 log sills to be repaired this fall
• UT2 Reach 1— old pond bottom area looks good - stable single thread channel within wet
floodplain
• UT2 Reach 2 — near reach end/confluence channel narrows with veg (flat floodplain area) -
watch that channel is maintaining; isolated low cover area in buffer (construction cut area;
bedrock exposed) woody growth ok streamside and along CE boundary — plan to
reseed/replant this fall
• UT5 — excess sediment is present but does not appear to be significantly impacting stream
function — riffles and structures visible, pools shallow, banks stable
• Overall, the woody and herbaceous veg looks great. Good flow in all reaches walked.
Discussed importance of keeping up with invasive treatments and landowner resolutions to
encroachments from now until closeout. The proposed planting and repairs will be noted in
the next monitoring report.
