There is about a 5' drop near the white line and that is of course a safety hazard. Our engineers wish to deploy a RIBS filled with concrete (see link) for about 60' to address the worst of the problem. Class VII rock will be used to repair the remaining section. Total bank stabilization will be about 145 linear feet. It looks like the area was previously armored with smaller class B stone years ago but most of that is gone now. This repair method should hold up much better and will return the stream to a more natural width. The stream in question is Lost Branch (we had no trouble finding it). Stream Classification is C; Trout. Due to the safety issue and looming trout spawning season, I am instructing maintenance forces and the hired contractor to proceed. The District office is preparing the permit drawings now and I hope to have the paperwork submitted next week. We will use dikes and pumps to dewater the construction area as usual. Let me know if you have immediate concerns. If not, we will proceed as noted above. http://www.erosion-management.com/ribs.asp ________________________________ Email correspondence to and from this sender is subject to the N.C.
