This is a written response regarding Incident Number 202101682.
Upon my arrival to work on the morning of August 4, 2021 I noticed my RAS Flow was
significantly low. Myself and my employees reacted immediately and started investigating the cause.
Within minutes we determined that the RAS line, which is only gravity fed, was clogged. At that time, we
began to try and open the line completely up to hopefully flush the line. The valve was seized and it was
extremely difficult to turn. So, that attempt was unsuccessful.
With no luck on flushing the line I immediately went to Best Rentals and rented 2, 2-inch trash
pumps with hoses at the cost of $140.90 to pump out the Clarifier. While I was gone to Best Rentals,
cut off the Aerators on my Oxidation Ditch to allow my solids to settle in my ditch and stop the solids
from filling my Clarifier. Once back at the plant we set up both pumps and began pumping down the
Clarifier. At this time, we were receiving extremely high flows do to rain. Because of high flows and
pumping out the clarifier I was overwhelming my plant and was forced to route some water out of the
plant. All flow then was routed straight to the effluent but was receiving a high dosage of chlorine.
After some time, the 2 pumps I had rented were not sufficient and I felt was taking too long to
pump out the Clarifier. I then contacted United Rental Pump Division and rented a 4 inch pump, I have
not received an invoice at this time. Once the clarifier was pumped down, we proceeded to rod out the
line with little success and burning the belts on our Sewer Jet costing $191.39 to replace. With our
Sewer Jet now out of service I contacted a neighboring Town and they assisted in helping us free the
line. With their help with were able to free the line and put the clarifier back in service.
Sincerely,
