I strongly oppose the proposed "Westpoint" development of the land near West Point on the Eno State Park. It is
appalling that clearing yet another 60 acres of land with resultant ecology disruption should occur in the
watershed of the Eno, and with no buffer! The Eno system of parks and trails is a major asset of the Durham
area and should be protected as a business investment for the appeal of the city and the benefit of future
inhabitants to enjoy.
The reasons for opposition are numerous, but include the obvious water quality issues that a development of this
size would affect, the hardscape and runoff that would affect the park and possibly the mill itself, the impact on
the wildlife of the river system, increased noise and light in the park (a designated relaxation and nature
preserve), and many others.
Durham's popularity should allow it pick and choose the best ways to use our land for everyone's benefit, and
once land is developed it will not go back to being open. Proximity to the park MUST be considered in
sanctioning use of the land.
Please do not allow this development to be constructed.
