The West point development at black meadow ridge violates the vision that Durham citizens have for the city. We
respect the need for natural areas, the need to honor the past and protect the future of the city.
West point on the Eno is a historic landmark with the last gristmill on the Eno. That area has had flooding
problems. The grist Mill would be in danger from the runoff waters of the proposed development. The natural
beauty of this area has been preserved for many years by concerned citizens. Every year the West point on the
Eno festival for the 4th of July provides funds to protect this area. It is well attended to signify the citizen support
for conservation. To have a high density development adjacent to the West point on the Eno is insulting. In the
development plan there is no provision for buffer areas for the noise pollution and sight pollution created by this
development.
It is hard to fathom the clear cutting of 61 acres of forest land. To create this high density monstrosity there would
be blasting and grading in a watershed designated area. Road construction would have to be over waterways
and wetlands.
In 2019 Black Meadow Creek was within the critical area of protection. Teer Quarry is a source of our drinking
water. The water from tier Quarry is also habitat for the fish we eat. There are areas where citizens swim and
fish. We must protect our future from pollution and the destruction our standard of living.
Please prevent the development of Black Meadow Creek.
