I am opposed to the Westpoint development and their permit application and believe that, given the social and
environmental significance of the area that it is sited for, a public hearing should be required on the proposed
development. I am concerned about the impacts that the Westpoint development would have on storm water
runoff, water quality, critical habitat, and on the Eno as a site of critical ecosystem services and recreational
amenities. Visiting the Eno is hands down one of my favorite things about living in Durham, besides the people,
and I want it to continue to be protected as the valuable resource that it is on so many levels so that future
generations of Durhamites can continue to reap the many benefits of this important local resource - from clean
drinking water to walks along the river. I firmly support more dense development in Durham as a way to continue
building our housing stock in a time of significant population growth but I do not think that west point is the right
place for this level of density or impermeable surface, given its proximity to important environmental resources. I
hope that you will deny the current permit application and require an official public hearing and more careful and
thorough consideration and review of this development and its potential impacts.
