Comment As a North Durham resident for over 25 years I am strongly opposed to the Westpoint development and their permit application. I do not think the assessments reflect the true picture of the developments impacts and the impacts from the 401 Individual Clean Water Act Permit disturbances. I do not think this project or specific permit is in the Public Interest of Durham residents or the environment- and I believe a Public Hearing should be required for this development. While the Eno water shed is a primary concern. The other major concern is the continued assault on North Durham by developments where Durham City/County planners have not built out adequate infrastructure (roads, traffic management, lack of policing staff ( also 911 operators) with the added population and certain crime to follow). The emphasis on urban sprawl and high density housing is not welcome in this part of Durham County. Finally, developers are smelling money and politicians are promoting "we need more affordable housing". The planning commission pushed through re -zoning for Latta Park and only 5% is affordable housing - what a joke. Will my property taxes go down as a result of more revenue from more units? I don't think so. Look at all of the development downtown and there has been no improvement in services for the average home owner and tax payer. No, No , No... we need more open space, peace, quiet and parks for the existing residents. We need less congestion, noise and crime.
