Comment It is beyond debate that the Eno River and its watershed are resources of unmatched importance to the residents of Durham and surrounding areas. It must be similarly unquestioned that these resources deserve the most careful and thoughtful improvement and protection. It takes ongoing dedicated effort to preserve our natural resources but only one bad decision to ruin them. Serious questions about the Westpoint project have been raised — water quality impact, run-off management, and historic site impact, among others — that should give the permitting authorities good reason for doubt that the project should be approved. Simple common sense suggests that clearing a forested 60 acre site and building thereon a mile -long, multi -family housing project (70% impervious!!!!) will have a potentially devastating effect on the IMMEDIATE NEIGHBOR, the Eno River State Park. I encourage you to consider, at the very least, postponing a decision on the Westpoint project until such time as the important concerns about the project can be thoroughly reviewed to be absolutely sure that our precious natural resource can be protected and its many benefits to our community preserved.
