Comment The Eno River is the crown jewel of the Durham area. It means the world to me and my community and makes Durham the beautiful place it is. Endangering our water supply in the way that the Westpoint project would is unethical and unnecessary. As indigenous and climate leaders around the world remind us: Water Is Life. I am opposed to the Westpoint development and their permit application. I do not think the assessments reflect the true picture of the development's impacts and the impacts from the 401 Individual Clean Water Act Permit disturbances. I do not think this project or specific permit is in the Public Interest of Durham residents or the environment- and I believe a Public Hearing should be required for this development. Comment The significant scope of this project scares me in terms of its potential negative impacts on Durham water and wildlife and large contribution to the city and county's already congested streets - in an area with less access to public transportation (meaning most of these residents will be driving cars, not riding buses). I have been a resident of Durham since 1998. While not a life-er, I have experienced how what started as welcome development evolved to a striking move from green spaces to concrete. The forest and undeveloped land around West Point on the Eno are a destination for residents to enjoy the Eno and surrounding wildlife. I can not imagine how hundreds of townhomes on 60 acres of land could NOT impact the waters and wildlife of the West Eno. We are at a point in our development as a city and county where we must protect the dwindling numbers of natural spaces that exist... Not squeeze in hundreds of townhomes to maximize profits to a particular builder. This may be a great project - in another location. A location that does not threaten water quality and wildlife sustainability.
