I am SO opposed to the Westpoint development on SO many levels.
Let me explain a few:
I am from Durham and grew up in the Argonne Hills neighborhood.
My father, Jim Dorman, knew the developer of our neighborhood and he let my dad name the neighborhood. It is
named after Argonne Forest in France where my grandfather and great uncle fought during WWI.
When we moved to Argonne Hills, North Roxboro Road was 2 lanes and a dirt road!!
My parents built our home at 214 Argonne Drive in 1964. My family along with many other families grew up here.
Ask anyone who grew up in AH and they will tell you it was like no other time. In one part of the neighborhood
between 3 houses there were 15 children! There was always someone to play with. Families from all over the US
moved here and that is when we learned about diversity! As we grew older, we would go through the woods and
even to the Eno! I remember seeing the trails where the wagons went through, the canopy of trees covering the
banks of the trails. Discovering the cemetery not too far from my house. The dates of those buried there were
very long ago back then!
214 Argonne Drive is where Timothy Hill now lives. Mr. Hill said he recently purchased the property because he
too loves the area. He said mostly for the wonderful West Point on the Eno and the area around it, Black
Meadow Ridge.
Mr. Hill recently reported to WRAL about the unapproved invasion and destruction of property, next to his
property, BMR, by developer, Keith Brown.
Unbeknownst to many people, Keith Brown even lived in Argonne Hills for several years! Now he wants to
destroy the land between Argonne Hills and Westpoint on the Eno solely for his personal financial gain!
Years ago there was a plan for developing an Eno Drive. I remember hearing my parents discuss not wanting
Eno Drive to be developed. This area was between our neighborhood and the Eno River! This is where Keith
wants to develop his project!!!
So many people have worked so diligently through the years to preserve the Eno River. The Eno River
Association and many others have made it what it is today.
N. Roxboro Road cannot handle the traffic we have now. Businesses haven't developed along NRR for many
reasons. Traffic goes so fast, we take our lives in our hands trying to enter/exit the road. And now NHS is being
built across from AH. Old Farm will never be the same because of the new traffic flow.
And Keith Brown wants to destroy so much all for personal gain and line his pockets.
Keith so glad you moved out of AH when you did and just take your grandiose ideas of development FAR FAR
away from AH, BMR and WPOTE.
Folks, City Council, and the Powers That Be ....Just Say No!
