Comment To Whom It May Concern, The Eno River and Eno River State Park are such rare and beautiful resources/amenities in Durham and our community. As a Durham resident since 2008 I have fallen in love with these natural wonders and they have brought me joy, peace, wonderment, and grounding/deep connection in our community. They need to be protected and preserved and not destroyed for corporate gains. I am opposed to the Westpoint development and their permit application. I do not think this project or specific permit is in the Public Interest of Durham residents or the environment. This project will have significant impacts to: water quality, endangered & threatened species, West Point City Park and Historic Site, and dozens of other issues that are not being addressed. I strongly believe a Public Hearing should be required for this development. Groups like Save Black Meadow Ridge and the Eno River Association have raised many concerns about the Westpoint development, and I believe each point being raised by these groups needs more thorough investigation. I would appreciate a response that reflects the vetting of all the concerns being raised by these groups. This is a project that should be deemed to have a significant public Impact and needs greater oversight through a different permit type and higher level of review. The ways in which the developer and the City of Durham have handled this development thus far has been incredibly concerning to me as a resident. Affordable housing is an issue that needs to be addressed in our community, yes, but it should be done in a way that doesn't harm some of our most precious natural amenities and it should be done in a thoughtful way where the broader community is actively engaged in the process. Without multiple layers of community engagement or community accountability this project is not equitable. Thank you for hearing my concerns and the concerns of many others.
