To whom it may concern,
I am deeply opposed to the West Point development and their application for a permit. I think this project will be
devastating to the Durham community and the Eno River watershed system for the following reasons:
• The application does not address the negative impacts that this development will have on water quality,
including Durham's drinking water.
• The application ignores public safety concerns about human contact with polluted water/runoff that will flow
from the development and into surrounding creeks/tributaries, many of which serve a vital role in Durham's
recreational and environmental landscape.
•The application contains incomplete and incorrect information. This includes claims to compliance with the
Neuse River Basin Rules and Clean Water Act regulations concerning the management of contaminated soil.
•The application does not take into consideration how the development will negatively affect historic sites,
including the beloved historic city park and Grist Mill.
•The application omits how the development will negatively impact both endangered and endangered species
including the Neuse Riverdog, the Atlantic Pigtoe and Carolina Madtom.
Due to the above reasons, I strongly believe that this project or the specified permit is in the interest of Durham
residents or the environment. I think that the permit type that the Westpoint developer applied for needs review
from the US Army Corps of Engineers, and the project needs additional oversight alongside more
comprehensive impact assessments. I am requesting a public hearing from the Division of Water Resources per
code: 15A NCAC .02H .0503.
Sincerely,
Julia Henn
