The proposed Westpoint development is a horrible idea for Durham from a social and environmental perspective.
The impacts of the original disturbance tearing up 60 acres and constructing dozens of houses will be extremely
detrimental, and the ongoing impacts of urban runoff may be catastrophic for the Eno River. Proposing 70%
impervious surfaces is simply outrageous and irresponsible, and shows a wanton lack of environmental
awareness or care by the developer. This project must not go forward.
Durham city and county are rapidly being reshaped, and our environmental authorities -- you -- need to act
responsibly to not irreparably harm our life -sustaining water quality. The proposed Westpoint development is
irresponsible when considered in isolation, and even more so when considering the compounding impacts of
other developments. The simply outrageous clearing for the new northern high school has already dramatically
altered this area, and will continue to do so through construction, huge amounts of pavement, and increased
vehicle traffic surrounding the Eno River. The Westpoint development ESA doesn't take into account the other
ongoing alterations to the area.
Please do not approve this irresponsible, harmful development. We do not need it, and our environment cannot
weather it.
