Hello,
I am strongly opposed to the Westpoint development project. It is no secret that planet Earth is struggling from
the amount of overuse by the human population. Durham has the opportunity, with opposition of this
development, to tell the world that we respect our planet and are invested in the preservation of natural
resources.
This development plan is another example of profit over planet. We know better than to heavily develop in this
area. The question is, will Durham do the right thing and opt to build this project in a space that coexists with our
Earth, instead of lean into utilitarianism and continue to brutalize it.
Another reason I oppose the project is the application does not account for how the development negatively
impacts historic sites. The Eno river has Native American historical value. Full stop. Indian tribes have historically
been disregarded when it comes to their ties and connection to natural spaces. Lets stop the cycle.
My hope is that this project does not succeed in developing the Eno river. This project would be a major misstep
by the city of Durham.
