I stand in firm opposition to the Westpoint development and their permit application. The given assessments do
not reflect the development's environmental impacts. Granting this permit is not in the best interest of Durham
residents for a variety of reasons and I believe that a Public Hearing should be required for this proposed
development.
I am a resident of the Berini neighborhood and I have seen firsthand the importance of the biodiversity of Eno
River State Park. We cannot underestimate the importance of large, 50 year old forests of trees in offsetting
carbon emissions and providing a home for wildlife (which has so little space as it is). I am also fearful of the
impact on Durham's water supply. Water is life.
The group Save Black Meadow Ridge has raised valid concerns that I share, and I believe that city officials
should be obligated to investigate these concerns before granting a permit.
