Hello,
I am a long time resident of Durham (22 years) and of North Durham for the last 8 years. I would like to express
my deep opposition to the Westpoint development and their permit application. I do not think the assessments
reflect the true picture of the development's impacts and the effects of the 401 Individual Clean Water Act Permit
disturbances. I do not think this project or specific permit is in the Public Interest of Durham residents or the
environment- and I believe a Public Hearing should be required for this development.
I have read the concerns raised by the Save Black Meadow Ridge group and would like each point being raised
to be thoroughly investigated and would appreciate a response that reflects the vetting of those concerns.
Building a mile of high density housing on the border of the West Point on the Eno land will directly impact
streams and wetlands that affect Durham's water supply (via the proposed Teer Quarry water intake) and the
river that is used by so many residents of Durham, not to mention threatening critical wildlife habitat.
Due to the above reasons I stand by the Save Black Meadow Ridge's assertion that the permit type the
Westpoint developer applied for needs review from the US Army Corps of Engineers, along with additional
oversight and impact assessments. I agree that we need a public hearing from the Division of Water Resources
per code: 15A NCAC .02H .0503
