Comment Thank you for the chance to share my comments about the Westpoint development. I am opposed to the development and the approval of their permit. It makes me incredibly sad to think of the proposed destruction of Black Meadow Ridge for the Westpoint development. Like many Durhamites, my family and I have spent many happy days at West Point on the Eno - my kids went to camp there for years, we love to kayak and swim in the river, we go to the July 4th festival... looking at the plans, and the astounding lack of a buffer, it's clear this development will have a major, destructive impact on the park. I don't believe this development is in the best interest of Durham, and I believe there should be a public hearing about the project before the permit is approved, and concerns of community groups should be thoroughly addressed before plans receive final approval. I hope that this project is subject to a more intense review than has happened so far, and that we can find a way to save one of the true natural jewels of Durham. Once the character (both historic and natural) of West Point is destroyed, it won't return. As someone who has happily played in the park since 1988, it's just hard to imagine that we'd let this happen without a thorough vetting. Thanks for your time and consideration!
