I am an AICP Urban Planner with a BA from UNC, Masters in Urban Planning from UCLA, background in climate
adaptation, water resources, and transportation.
I understand the tremendous impact that runoff water from new development can have on surrounding
ecosystems. I do not think the assessments reflect the true picture of the development's impacts and the impacts
from the 401 Individual Clean Water Act Permit disturbances.
West Point on the Eno is a gem of a city park, making nature accessible to all Durham residents. I grew up
exploring the woods at West Point, and I believed they were a wilderness that extended for miles and miles. I
want future generations of Durham youth to have this same experience with nature. Now as an adult, I am
always pleased to see the diversity of residents who enjoy the woods and waters of West Point. Degrading this
natural environment would not only be an ecological Toss, but also impact equity and community access to
natural spaces and healthy recreational opportunities.
I support more housing in Durham, but I believe that intensive development should be focused closer to
downtown, to job centers, and to high -frequency public transit. The style of development proposed by this
projects would only accelerate sprawl, traffic congestion, VMT, traffic injuries and deaths, habitat destruction, and
polluting emissions.
I do not think this project or specific permit is in the Public Interest of Durham residents or the environment- and I
believe a Public Hearing should be required for this development.
Thank you,
