Comment To whom this may concern, I cannot believe i am writing this. I cannot believe you are even considering moving forward with the destructive Black Meadow Ridge development on Westpoint on the Eno. This is probably the most destructive project that i have seen attempted in my 25 years living in Durham. I am appalled. There are so many reasons that there is no way this project should be approved i am not exactly sure where to start. Firstly the Eno River and its lands are the jewel of our city and if anything at all threatens the health and welfare of that river and those sacred lands it would be an absolute disaster. The group Save the Black Meadow Ridge has raised many concerns that i share, and i do believe that each and every one of those issues requires thorough investigation! This is a matter that is not in the Public interest of Durham residents or in the interest of our environment. I believe that a Public Hearing should be mandatory for this development! Some of the points that create my opposition to the Westpoint development are the negative impacts on water quality (specifically Durham's drinking water), public safety concerns about direct human contact with runoff from the development, negative impact on threatened and endangered species and their habitat, negative impact on the Eno River's surrounding streams, stream buffers and wetlands, and the negative impact on historic sites. I truly believe this project should be considered to have significant public impact and require a higher level of review! I am saddened that a project of this size would even be considered along the only accessible tranquil bit of respite that our city has left... the sheer numbers alone of people who have been drawn to the Eno River and its banks and trails during this pandemic should tell you something about the sacredness of this area to all of its inhabitants. Please consider my points.
