I am opposed to the Westpoint development and their permit application. Their assessments do not go far
enough in evaluating the impact to West Point on the Eno, particularly the water quality and the environmental
repercussions. I share the same concerns as the Save Black Meadow Ridge group which I believe the points
they have raised need thorough investigation. I would appreciate a response that reflects the vetting of those
concerns. My biggest worry is that the development's main site run off will flow into two tributaries which are
highly popular recreational areas frequented by visitors who would be exposed to that run off not to mention the
impact to wildlife, the nearby watershed, and wetlands. Any project that poses risk to our clean water deserves
closer scrutiny and a public hearing since the community is an impacted stakeholder and therefore should have
a chance to be heard and have their concerns addressed.
Apart from this, the development would also be visible along the entire southern border of the park introducing
noise pollution and visible urban sprawl in a public space cherished by the community for it's pristine trails and
immersive nature experience that not many cities offer. This project does not serve our long term public interests
as Durham residents. Thank you for your time.
