Comment The environmental impact of building in this area would be significant. The runoff would greatly damage water quality. There are other pieces of land available in Durham not near a major river. The proposed 379 unit development would likely increase existing flooding, causing erosion/structural damage to the park's important historical buildings (such as the historic Grist Mill and other structures), as well as damage to river habitats, water quality, and surrounding neighborhoods. The proposed development also would be constructed at the SAME TIME as the brand new NORTHERN HIGH SCHOOL situated just across the busy N. Roxboro St, which serves as a major commuting corridor. N Roxboro St. already has major traffic backups during rush hours, and the proposed development would snarl traffic and cause a high volume of cars to cut through from N Roxboro to Stadium Drive, leading to dangerous conditions on small neighborhood streets not intended to handle high volume traffic.
