We have all written our comments and recommended to constructed the pier over the marsh, even if dredging will be required under the boat slips. Anne did not think your idea to build a living shoreline by relocating the shell cultch and shellfish would work. She further commented that DMF's stance would be, new dredge of extensive shallow bottom, even without shellfish, would be grounds for recommending against this, especially because there is an alternative. Thank you for your time. Kim, We did evaluate locating the proposed facility out on the AIWW adjacent to the southern docks and even had a set of figures prepared for that. However, after a site visit we noticed the water depths are extremely shallow and those floating docks actually sit on the bottom at low tide. We met onsite with DCM and DWR (Katherine and Holley) and reviewed the current plan and they can confirm the depths. So, dredging would need to be proposed at that location too and the square footage would actually be greater since we can't utilize the existing dredged channel. With the shorter pier and reduced dredge footprint that utilizes the existing dredged channel, the proposed layout is the best option and there are no significant shellfish resources in the dredge footprint. Considering this, can you please revise your comments? I would be happy to discuss in a phone call if needed.
