As an environmental scientist and specialist in urban conservation issues with a Master's Degree from Duke
University, I oppose the development of any high -density urban development projects that threaten water quality
and the ecological integrity of stream corridors in Durham. This development directly threatens the Eno River
corridor, one of the most celebrated and important natural features of our city. Likely sources or environmental
quality and ecological damage from this project include runoff, erosion, and pollution caused by destroying forest
(which provides important ecosystem services) with impervious surfaces, point -source pollutants, and impacts
associated with a dense human population.
As a Durham resident, I understand the need for increased housing opportunities in this city, but bad growth is
worse than no growth at all. I sincerely hope the Westpoint development project is stopped.
