I am a City of Durham resident, and I am opposed to the Westpoint permit application in its current form.
The site of the proposed development is directly adjacent to West Point on the Eno Park. The NC Department of
Natural and Cultural Resources State Historic Preservation Office references West Point on the Eno as a Historic
site. It is therefore disingenuous for the applicants to state that the development site is not located in or "near" a
State historical site.
I do not believe that the assessments address the impact of West Point on the Eno to the degree required under
Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act. In my opinion, there is insufficient information for a permit
to be granted without a public hearing and higher level of review..
West Point on the Eno is an irreplaceable site of historic importance and public value, and the environmental
risks posed by this development by the construction work, long-term stormwater runoff, and aesthetic disruption
need to be more carefully evaluated.
