I am writing now about one aspect of the Westpoint - its impact on water - that I believe has not been adequately
considered.
I am a Durham resident since 1987 and the Eno River and its two parks (West Point on the Eno and Eno River
State Park) have been an important part of my life since then. The Eno River and its parklands provide
opportunities for me to be outdoors in forests away from the urban hubbub, and I am concerned that the water
quality will be affected by the Westpoint project. These in turn affect the human and wildlife who interact with the
Eno.
The details of the concerns are specified on the website: www.BlackMeadowRidge.org. In short, the application
does not account for the effects on water quality for Durham, it does not address the likely runoff from the
development or how the changes in water quality affect threatened and endangered species.
I strongly urge requiring the developers to address these issues and to apply for review from the US Army Corps
of Engineers. In addition, there needs to be a public hearing from the Division of Water Resources per code: 15A
NCAC .02H .0503
Thank you for your consideration of my concerns and the concerns of many others who care about the Eno River
and the benefits it brings to Durham!
