The Eno River is a precious resource in Durham - offering opportunities for hiking, bird watching, fishing,
canoeing and kayaking, swimming, and more. This is unique to our urban and suburban area, a relatively clean
and high quality river because it is largely surrounded by protected land in spite of the development of the
greater Durham area. I oppose the Westpoint development because the high density of development will create
significant amounts of runoff, increasing pollution in our river and exacerbating flooding that already threatens
our homes and our roads. Several times in the last few years, the Eno has flooded to the point of endangering
our roads. I've included pictures of some of these instances. We know why flooding happens - too many
impermeable surfaces too close to the river. This leads to property destruction and can be deadly for residents
and motorists. It's too late to change what already exists, but it's not too late to prevent it from getting worse.
Please deny the Westpoint development permit and protect our river, our homes, and our roads.
