Comment My wife and I have lived in North Durham for over 30 years and have watched the (relatively) slow development of North Durham during that period of time, and have appreciated that much of the development has not destroyed the character of our area. Moreover, we appreciate the high quality drinking water and availability of that water -- we remember when the Durham water won an award for quality and taste! However, I feel the Westpoint development puts our North Durham character and Durham's water supply at fairly great risk. The developers are requesting too high a density of living units. The previous City Councils and relevant committees have wisely held to the unified master plan of controlled development that preserves the character of the community and also protects our water. Also, the Eno River serves as a major source of drinking water for Raleigh and Wake County. We should be good neighbors and be sensitive to their well-being, not just send pollution, waste, and larger amounts of run-off downstream and say "it's their problem!" The Eno River State and City Parks are a major draw to the area and big part of the positive character of North Durham. Putting West Point on the Eno park under such stress and risk from such high -density development will diminish that draw and lower the quality of life in our community. Therefore, as long-time residents of the area, we strongly urge our elected leaders and appointed committee members to oppose high -density developments which pose such a large risk to our community's "look and fee" and the City's water supply. Please consider the wisdom of those who came before you to allow measured, slow development and turn down the request for rezoning for higher density housing (and commercial) development. Thank you for your time.
