DESIGN NARRATIVE
1.0 PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The Village South Pump Station and Utilities project installs approximately 2,500 LF of 6-inch
PVC sanitary sewer force main; approximately 1,000 linear feet of 8-inch PVC gravity sanitary
sewer; approximately 2,500LF of 6-inch and 4-inch PVC reclaimed water line; approximately
2,600 LF of 12-inch and 8-inch DIP potable water line. The proposed reclaimed water line, and
potable water line connect to existing infrastructure and extend to proposed infrastructure
designed by others. The proposed sanitary sewer force main begins at the proposed pump
station and extends to an existing sanitary sewer gravity manhole. The proposed sanitary
sewer outfall is a new gravity outfall installed for future development and extends to the
proposed pump station. The project also includes construction of a sanitary sewer pump
station, access drive and water service line.
The project includes NCDOT roadway crossings of Chatham Parkway (SR-2700) and Suttles
Rd (SR-1809). Each of these crossings will be conducted via bore and jack. Associated
encroachments have been applied for and are awaiting approval. WithersRavenel, the site
civil engineer for Chatham Park, has provided Section 401/404 permitting to respective
agencies and is awaiting approval. The total project has approximately 4.6 acres of disturbed
area.
2.0 EXISTING SYSTEM
The proposed sanitary sewer forcemain will tie-in to an existing sanitary sewer gravity
manhole. This downstream receiving sewer is permitted under WQ0040741 and is owned by the
Town of Pittsboro.
3.0 PROPOSED ADDITIONS
The proposed construction will add approximately 1,000 linear feet of 8-inch PVC gravity
sanitary sewer. The proposed sanitary sewer is a new gravity outfall installed for future
development and extends to the proposed pump station. Additionally, the proposed
construction will add approximately 2,500 LF of 6-inch PVC sanitary sewer force main. The
force main begins at the proposed pump station and extends to an existing sanitary sewer
gravity manhole. The project does not include the permitting of new sanitary sewer flows.
Other consultants will provide permits for the new flows in future projects for the Village South
development.
The proposed sanitary sewer pump station, identified as Village South Pump Station, is
designed for a firm capacity of 144.25 MGD. The pump station construction will consist of one
wetwell with two submersible pumps, one meter vault with bypass piping, odor control with
bulk chemical storage, electrical and control panel rack, and a generator. The pump station is
designed for permanent onsite backup generator; therefore, a power reliability plan has not
been included with this submittal. The construction will also include an access drive and water
service line with yard hydrant. The design flow of the pump station has been coordinated with
WithersRaveneI, the site civil engineer for Chatham Park.
