I worked many years as resident field naturalist at West Point on the Eno Park. I have witnessed dozens of
tropical storm remnants pass through Durham and carefully noted the rise of Black Meadow Creek flooding the
park and inundating the historic mill. It is my opinion that the mill cannot survive any further increase in water
flowing down Black Meadow Creek. I do not see how this proposed housing development, the size of the one
currently going through Durham Planning Department review, can be built without making the West Point mill
vulnerable to being completely washed away in subsequent storms that will surely come and engorge Black
Meadow Creek.
