Comment With respect: Have they lost their minds? The same reasons that made Eno Drive a bad idea until reason finally prevailed in the 1990s, finally quelling several decades of ill-advised plans, also make the contemporarily planned Black Meadow Ridge -- which still showed Eno Drive bounding the most recent site plan I've seen -- a spectacularly bad idea. It compounds all of the problems identified with Eno Drive, principally that it destroys irreplaceable natural habitat in a critical watershed area. The highest and best use of this tract is obviously, as green space, conveniently near town for visits by nature lovers and a legacy to our children's children, a jewel in Durham's landscape, or what's left of it. Also similarly to Eno Drive, while housing, like transportation, may be a priority, it does not need to be in this location. We mustn't let the good of affordability in housing (or the specious, and, I suspect, cynical invocation of it, now that $350,000 homes are being touted as "affordable") trump all other concerns. Please do your clear duty and deny a water quality permit to the Black Meadow Ridge development.
