A. SEPTIC TANK
1. PRE -CAST CONCRETE TANK SHALL BE CONSTRUCTED IN
ACCORDANCE WITH THE PLANS APPROVED BY THE N.C.
DIVISION OF ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH AND SHALL
COMPLY WITH 15A NCAC 18A.1954 AS AMENDED THRU
APRIL 1, 1993.
2. A MINIMUM 28-DAY CONCRETE COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH
OF 3,500 PSI SHALL BE USED.
3. TANKS MANUFACTURED IN TWO SECTIONS SHALL BE
JOINED AND SEALED AT THE JOINT BY USING A
MASTIC, BUTYL RUBBER OR OTHER PLIABLE SEALANT
THAT 15 WATERPROOF, CORROSION -RESISTANT AND
APPROVED FOR USE IN SEPTIC TANKS.
4. TANK ACGFSS OPENINGS, CONCRETE RISERS AND LIDS
SHALL BE PROVIDED AS NECESSARY TO ALLOW TANK

C. OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE
1. THE OWNER WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR PROPERLY
MAINTAINING THE WASTEWATER SYSTEM.
2, TANK SHOULD BE CHECKED ANNUALLY FOR ACCUMULATION
OF SCUM AND/OR SLUDGE DEPTH AND FOR GENERAL
CONDITION OF THE TANK AND COMPONENTS. SEPTIC
TANK SHOULD BE PUMPED OUT WEN SLUDGE DEPTH
REACHES 25X-35% OF LIQUID DEPTH UNLESS BUILDUP
PROBLEMS WTH THE COLLECTION PIPE WARRANTS MORE
FREQUENT PUMPING.
3. DRAINFlELD AND DISTRIBUTION BOX SHOULD BE
CHECKED EVERY SIX MONTHS FOR EROSION AND
SURFACING OF EFFLUENT. ROUTINE MOWNG SHOULD BE
PERFORMED.
D. GENERAL
1. PIPELINE CROSSINGS - W/ENEVER A WATERLINE
CROSSES OVER A WASTEWATER PIPE, THE BOTTOM OF
THE WATERLINE SHALL BE 18' ABOVE THE TOP OF THE
WASTEWATER PIPE. IF THE 18' SEPARATION CANNOT
BE MAINTAINED, OR IF THE WATERLINE MUST CROSS
BELOW THE WASTEWATER PIPE, THEN BOTH WATERLINE
AND WASTEWATER PIPE SHALL BE CONSTRUCTED OF
DUCTILE IRON MATERIALS WTH JOINTS EQUIVALENT TO
WATERLINE STANDARDS FOR A DISTANCE OF 10 FEET ON
EACH SIDE OF THE POINT OF CROSSING. A SECTION
OF WATERMAIN PIPE SHALL BE CENTERED AT THE POINT
OF CROSSING.
2. LATERAL SEPARATIONS - WASTEWATER PIPES SHALL BE
LAID AT LEAST 10 FEET LATERALLY FROM EXISTING OR
PROPOSED WATERMAINS, UNLESS LOCAL CONDITIONS OR
BARRIERS PREVENT A 10 FOOT LATERAL SEPARATION IN
WHICH CASE:
A. THE WASTEWATER PIPE IS LAID IN A SEPARATE
TRENCH, WTH THE ELEVATION OF THE BOTTOM OF
THE WATERMAN AT LEAST 18 INCHES ABOVE THE
TOP OF THE FORCEMAIN; OR

LOCATED AT ONE SIDE OF A BENCH OF
UNDISTURBED EARTH, AND WITH THE ELEVATION
OF THE BOTTOM OF THE WATERMAN AT LEAST 18
INCHES ABOVE THE TOP OF THE FORCEMAIN.

SHALL BE MAINTAINED; SUCH SETBACKS FOR TREATMENT
AND DISPOSAL SYSTEMS INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED

B. PRIVATE WELL - 1DO FEET OR AS REQUIRED BY
CCHD
C. BUILDING - 5 FEET
D. PROPERTY LINE- 10 FEET
E. WATERLINE - 10 FEET
F. ANY OTHER NITRIFICATION FIELD - 20 FEET
SETBACKS FOR COLLECTION SEWERS INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:
A. PUBLIC WELL - 100 FEET UNLESS CONSTRUCTED
OF DIP NTH MECHANICAL JOINTS EQUIVALENT TO
WATERMAIN STANDARDS IN WHICH CASE THE
MINIMUM SETBACK IS 50 FEET,
B. PRIVATE WELL - 50 FEET UNLESS CONSTRUCTED
OF DIP WIN MECHANICAL JOINTS EQUIVALENT TO
WATERMAN STANDARDS IN WHICH CASE THE
MINIMUM SETBACK IS 25 FEET.
C. PROPERTY LINE - 5 FEET
D. ANY OTHER NITRIFICATION FIELD - 5 FEET
4. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR LOCATING
AND AVOIDING DESTRUCTION OF ALL E10STING
