TATE, P.E. DAVID M. LEGRAND, JR., P.E RECEIVED JUL I 1 20117 DENR-LAND QUALITY STORMTER PERMITTING i Dear Mr. Bell, 'P S Per your request, Catawba Valley Engineering and Testing (CVE'%/c* viding this letter summarizing our evaluation performed to determine the permeability of s dace soils below the proposed underground detention system at SMG Leasing, LLC in Statesvilre, North Carolina. The purpose of our exploration was to obtain representative samples of the subsurface soils within the proposed detention system envelope, perform laboratory testing, and determine the infiltration rate to aid in design of the minimum surface area for an infiltration system. CVET personnel visited the subject site on June 26, 2017 to perform a total of three hand auger borings (A, B, C) within the proposed underground detention system at the locations displayed on Figure I — Infiltration Test Location Plan. Bag samples were obtained at I foot intervals to depths ranging from approximately 2 to 10 feet below bottom of system elevation (869.74 ft.). No evidence of the seasonal high water table (SHWT) was observed at the depths explored during this evaluation. The bulk soil samples were returned to CVET laboratory in Hickory, North Carolina where the samples were subjected to Grain Size Analysis (ASTM D422). Laboratory results of the soil samples reveal that the in -situ soils have USCS Classification of ML and SM. Based upon our interpretation of Table B-2 of NAVFAC MO 330, we conclude that a permeability (infiltration) rate of k = 104 cm/sec is an acceptable value for use in design of the minimum surface area for an infiltration system. Conversion of this reveals an infiltration rate of approximately 0.1417 inches/hour. Please see the attached Laboratory Test Results. This report has been prepared for the exclusive use of G.L. Wilson Building Company and their agents for specific application to the referenced property, in accordance with generally accepted concrete and foundation engineering practices. No warranties, expressed or implied, are intended or made. Hickory, North Carolina Project No. 17066 _Figure __ Tested By: CR Checked By: JHC Riddle, Rick L From: Riddle, Rick L Sent: Wednesday, August 09, 2017 9:56 AM To: mtart@glwilson.com' Subject: State SW permit for SMG Leasing, LLC = SW3170701 Mark, I am in process of reviewing the plans and calculations submitted to us for SMG Leasing. We have a few items that need to be c anged on sheet C4.1 for the detention system: One observation port is a requirement per the Infiltration MDC 6, not optional as shown. The 4" orifice at the bottom of the baffle wall needs removed. It will allow the first flush from the storm to escape from the chamber without treatment. We also have some highly suggested recommendations for the Underground Detention System: X The middle three rows of the system do not have a good way to clean or inspect those rows. Suggest adding at least an observation port at both middle rows for observation but a better alternative would be a manhole or other access for observation and cleaning with a jet vacuum hose. Outlet control structure does not accurately show location of 6" HDPE underdrain. Also how to clean or observe this pipe? Outlet control structure does not accurately show location of 12" bottom connection to chambers. Which side of baffle does this fall? Please mail two copies of revised sheet C4.1 with the changes back to NCDEQ and upload a copy to https://edocs.deg.nc.gov/Forms/SW Project Submittal I'll let you know if I find any other items for comment.
